Drone/UAV Guidelines

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) aka Drones have become extremely popular in recent years, and are a great low cost introduction to aviation for many people. The Windsock Village Aviation Corporation encourages a safe and enjoyable aviation environment for all aviators.

To fly a Drone within 5 miles of Windsock Village Airpark the following guidelines must be followed:

  • All model aircraft must be flown according to the law.
  • Per federal law, you must register your drone/UAV with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This law also applies to model aircraft.
  • Contact the Windsock Village Airpark Drone Coordinator at least 48 hours prior to flight — Carl Tyler, (207) 370-5168
  • If a manned aircraft is flying within the vicinity, LAND THE DRONE.
  • At a minimum, have aircraft communications available through LiveATC whilst flying the drone.  Preferably have a two way radio, announcing your position to aircraft in the area.
  • Always fly your drone/UAV under 400 feet and keep it within your direct line of sight.  We would prefer drones are flown below the tree tops.
  • Fly only during daylight.
  • Don’t fly over another person’s land without their permission.
  • Don’t fly over moving cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other vehicles.
  • If operating the drone for commercial reasons, example realty photography, the pilot of the drone must hold a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA, and carry insurance.  You must have permission from the Drone Coordinator or another member of the Windsock Village Aviation Corporation prior to your flight.
  • All New Hampshire privacy laws must be honored and obeyed.

Under ALL circumstances, manned aircraft have the right of way.
